Economic growth and ecological sustainability - an insurmountable conflict of interests?
With staggering economics on the one hand and failing ecosystems on the other the EU needs to overcome the current mindset of looking at these two areas separately. An integrated approach is due when tackling problems such as rising unemployment rates, the decrease of limited natural resources or climate change. As rivalling interests of different stakeholders make it this much harder to find solutions on an international level, most progress is often made on the local and regional level. Thus, the delegates of the 25th National Selection Conference in Passau will focus on the EU's Regional Policy.

Located in the tri-border region of Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany Passau provides the perfect setting for these debates. Being home to many small and medium-sized enterprises the effects of the EU's Regional Policy can be directly evaluated with local experts while the amazing scenery around Passau brings to mind the ecological aspects of the session's theme.

The session is head organised by Martha Stolze (martha.stolze@eyp.de). If you have any questions concerning this event do not hesitate to contact her.
